As a breast cancer survivor, I am always looking at ways to stay healthy and reduce my risks of a recurrence. There are so many opposing opinions between GPs, oncologists and Naturopathic Doctors that I try to take the information in and then use common sense.
In this case, if we think about our exposure to the sun versus slathering on chemical sunscreens; to me it’s a no-brainer.
I enjoy the sun during non-peak hours WITHOUT sunscreen and am just very careful not to burn during peak hours. If I must be out during peak hours, I use a non-chemical sunscreen like Badger or Green Beaver, or I wear a big hat and long sleeves.

So, my philosophy is enjoy the sun and all it’s benefits but just don’t get burned. My ND would agree and my GP agrees that we just don’t know enough about the long-term effects of chemical sunscreens to feel totally confident using them.

I say enjoy the sun but be smart and don’t burn!

    Have a great summer!
    Julie
